Almost all border towns in Nevada, regardless of their size, feature full-service casinos. Seeing Nevada’s recognizable outline — an uneven trapezoid with a diagonal notch in the northeast — from space at night seems quite plausible.
Regardless of its form, it measures about 483 miles in length and 321 miles in width. From 250 miles above in low earth orbit, the lights of Nevada’s border towns are too faint and widely scattered to achieve this significant mapping task.
Certainly, from space, you can distinctly see Las Vegas and Reno, but neither assists in outlining Nevada’s border since they are situated 35 and 20 miles away from it, respectively.
Current border towns with casinos add merely small, isolated dots of light to satellite images, if at all. Beginning at the state's southern end and moving clockwise, the largest are Laughlin, Primm, Pahrump, Topaz Lake, Stateline, Crystal Bay, Verdi, McDermitt, Jackpot, West Wendover, and returning, Mesquite.
Every neon casino light they have can shine like supernovas to guests entering their state eager for excitement.
However, from space, they leave absolutely no evidence.
